Amigurumi

Help me, Obi-Wan Kenobi; you're my only hope.

Obi Wan Kenobi and Princess Leia

Thought it was time I made an amigurumi for myself and Princess Leia Organa it was! It does appear Princess Leia is a little chubby (or maybe curvy?) but I think she’s cute like that. I was quite looking forward to making her because of her hair.

Princess Leia

Did some research on amigurumi hair and I adapted the hair tutorial from Geek Central Station but instead of embroidery thread, I used roving wool. I originally wanted to use the roving wool idea for Obi Wan’s hair but then realised I didn’t have white wool. I didn’t really photograph the process so I will try to describe how I made her hair.

Princess Leia

Basically grabbed some roving wool - with the sewing machine sewed a line down the middle to create her hair parting. On the underside of her wig I applied a thin line of PVA glue on her parting, and pinned on the line of her parting on her head and left it alone for a few minutes for the glue to bond to her head. Still with the pins stuck on I added a little more glue to her undersides of her hair and using a hair tie, wrap her hair down the sides of her face - and yes it might appear I am killing her with my hair tie. This will hold the hair in place. After 15 minutes of “strangling” Princess Leia, remove the hair tie and braid both sides and twirl it into a bun - sew in place and leave alone overnight for the glue to completely dry. Remove pins in her head the next morning. Glue should dry clear.

Princess Leia

Congratulations! You made made amigurumi hair! I haven’t tried this with short hair yet but I should think it’s just as easy and you can really do alot with roving wool for hair.

On another note, if you like my Princess Leia as much as I do, you can download a desktop wallpaper of her here.

That's no moon. It's a space station.

It's Obi-Wan Kenobi Amigurumi! Also my Paré Freddie's belated birthday present. I'm a little over a week late but I think once he sees this it will be okay. It was hard deciding what to make since Yoda was already taken so owner of Yoda #1 suggested the cool Obi-Wan (original) and it was perfect!

Obi-Wan took me over a week to make him and got 3 blisters from it - mainly also I was making Yoda #3 for Gerry and our crafty swap. So it will be awhile before another amigurumi project comes along, my calluses need healing.

This is also the most detailed amigurumi crated so far, with the most detailed outfit with facial hair and my own attempt at "hair" which isn't really much of an attempt. And oh... an amethyst Swarovski encrusted blue lightsabre. I am grateful to Sammi at Geek Central Station for sharing her "Human Amigurumi" pattern.

Now if we want to talk about details you really must visit her site, it's filled with her many inspirational and highly detailed amigurumi figures from her latest Ghostbuster to Gandalf. And you'll see how I am an influenced follower.

With me again, the Force is

Requests to make more Yodas, I had. Hmmmmmm.

This is version number 2 made and you can see there is some progress in my crocheting skills. I've also made just adjustments to his costume and included a hood and a sash.

Due to the unavailability of my sewing machine, I actually sewed Yoda's robe by hand. So it took longer than usual to create this look. It is worth is because, most adorable cute, he is.

Owner of Yoda number 1 found out today that I made *gasp* another Yoda thus rendering his no longer exclusive and needless to say, disappointed. But really relieved that it was not for anyone he knew, so I made a deal with him that I would not make another Yoda for anyone in the industry and that made him happier plus the fact that I will make him Mace Windu sometime in the future.

I found a Jedi Name Generator - amusing it is. Hmmmmmm.

The Force... with me, it is.

Isn't Yoda the cutest!

I first saw the Yoda amigurumi on Geek Central Station and I sent the link to one of the biggest Star Wars geek I knew and he immediately said he wanted one and asked me to make him one. So I did when the pattern came out at the etsy store I bought one! You should see Darth Vader, he's just adorable! So when I brought Yoda to work, the rest of the boys were horribly jealous.

Now I have 2 more Yodas to make...

On other news, I now have my etsy store up! Except.. I need to make more stock... It's all coming your way very soon!!

Mopsie - My First Amigurumi Bunny

Presenting Mopsie (named upon sight by Charlie) my first Amigurimi (編み包み) Bunny! This was made from the a free crochet pattern on the Lion Brand yarn site.

mopsie

My first ever crochet project. It took me about 4-5 days to complete this. I haven't yet seen Lion Brand yarn in Singapore so I got 12-ply wool from Spotlight. Prior to this all I made was 1 line of chain stitches when I was 9. So this for me is a remarkable achievement. It has truly tested my patience and attention span. I am left wondering what my next project will be... can I make the commitment to a sweater? a bag? a vest?

I somehow got my colleague Dixie on the bandwagon and she's going like an energizer battery with already 5 projects lined up! But Dixie is an amazing multi-talented multi-tasker. I've not met anyone else who can multi-task better. It is nice to have a crochet-buddy around :)
